Few ways to perk up your UI design

Posted on 15 August 2022

Introduction

UI design or user interface must be captivating at first glance- this is the general rule. However, what if I tell you that making your user interface attractive is not enough? Well, yes you read it right. There are numerous other things that you need to see to spice up your design. If you want to be a UI designer whose designs speak for themselves then you need to do something extra than just focusing on creating the same old boring designs. You have to think out of the box to generate exciting UI designs.

Here we are going to discuss a few things that will liven up your boring designs.

Focus on little details

Just a rhetorical question- why do you think companies like Geico and Old spice are such recognizable brands? As we said it’s just a rhetorical question so you don’t have to stress yourself by thinking about it. We are going to answer this question, but before that, you need to know the purpose behind this question. You know what; users find it pleasing if the screen they face is witty and more interactive. Focusing more on little details can bring out the huge difference.

For instance, if a pop-up message that appears after the completion of sign-up would be “Dude! You rule. Thanks for signing up” rather than plain “sign up completed” then it would be more engaging and new, which definitely picks up the attention of the user. Thus, injecting life into your design by being artistic about little details is an excellent way to provide something new to your potential users.

Now, back to our question; well, you have already learned the answer. Geico and Old spice both brands focus on these little details that users find pleasing explaining the reason for them being famous globally.

Appropriate use of icons and emojis

Icons and emojis are a great way to make your site more interactive. Users can understand the purpose of a button or any other element at first glance with an appropriate icon. However, the key here is smartly using them. Don’t overdo it. Because overuse of these icons or emojis can affect the overall design and create ambiguity. So, you need to be creative about where to use them as per their need.  Go nomad and Rome to Rio are the perfect examples of how you can use symbols for creative yet useful design. Just to be clear we are not promoting their websites or anything like that, we are just mentioning them because they could be a good source of inspiration if you want to learn about the usage of icons and emojis.

All-time favorite- Dark mode

Again, we are here describing the importance of dark mode. Whether you are developing an app or creating a website design adding the dark mode option is providing the elixir of life to the majority of dark mode users. Ok! Ok! We admit calling dark mode elixir of life is a bit exaggerated, but believe us this is extremely important in the present and future world of UI designs.

Creative error states

We all know how users find error states undesirable. But, how good it would be if we turn these error states into something exciting? Our favorite example of this creative error state is Google chrome. We mean how genius it is that they convert the annoying “no internet” screen into an endless T-Rex running game while providing all the necessary information at the same time. So, if you want your digital product to be stuck up in users’ heads then you need to think out of the box.

Conclusion

In the end, we would conclude this article by saying that these four are just the basic techniques that you can use for a better design. There are many other ways you can use to excel in UI designing. However, remember that UI designing is not all about aesthetics; it has to be designed in a way that is easy to use by the users. So, be careful about the fine balance between design and usability of the design.

Four important skills and traits
for UI designers

Posted on 12 August 2022

Introduction

With continuous progression in digitalization more and, more companies are building their businesses online. With this digitalization, the need for UI/UX designers is increasing with each passing day. However, with this increase in demand for UI/UX designers the competition has also increased to a great extent. As a UI designer, you need to make your position strong by keeping yourself updated with the latest trends to stand a chance in this competitive field. In this, we will see a few skills and traits that as a UI designer you must possess to excel in this field.

Competitive skills that UI designers should have

Competitive skills that UI designers should have

1. Detailed research

As a designer, you need to be a keen searcher. Before developing a product you need to do the research from various angles to see the suitability of your product at various levels. As UI and UX work side by side so you need to create an interface user friendly to enhance the interaction of your website with your potential users. Without a good interface, you can’t have the response that you want from your website, app, or digital product. So, you need to do thorough research considering three major factors. First is your potential users, secondly, the design should be according to the user’s needs, and last but most important you need to gather as much data as possible to create an interactive and informative design.

2. Wireframing and prototyping

You need to master wireframing and prototyping to make yourself shine in this combative field. If you are a beginner and are not aware of these terms then here are the definitions of wireframing and prototyping, Wireframing___it is the process of creating an overview of a product to establish its structure and flow of the possible design. Prototyping___ it is the process of creating ideas, experiments, and concepts for a digital product. A prototype is the raw version of the digital product. App prototyping is an essential skill that you should learn to have a better understanding of the functionality and mechanism of your product creation before its creation by the developers.

3. Mastering new tools

Gone are those days when you need to know the coding to make a prototype or wireframe. There are many new tools present now that are making prototyping and wireframing easy, also helping you to unlock your potential for designing. Tools like Mockitt, Figma, and many others are making prototyping very convenient. For instance, Mockitt also allows you to view your prototype in real-time, thus helping you in creating an interactive prototype.

4. Collaboration

No matter how good a UI designer you are, if you want to excel and grow in this field you need to work with others to get a better understanding of the project. Communication is the key here. You need to have good communication skills to collaborate with others to maximize your skills and experience. This enables you tocreate a product that would speak for itself.

Conclusion

With the progress of the digital world, designs are getting smarter, fluent, and responsive in short user friendly. Hence, UI/UX designers need to have a strong skill set to maintain their position in this evolving industry. If you are a UI designer then above mentioned skills can help you achieve a lot in your UI designing career. If you want more informative blogs to help you grow then stay connected with us. Room of growth in UX Design

Posted on 10 August 2022

Introduction

People ignore design that ignores People.Frank Chimero(Designer)

This simple line describes a lot. You can’t be a good UX designer if you are not open to learning anything new. UX is the field where you find new things every day. It is way more than just the knowledge of little software. As a designer, you must be aware of the importance of usability testing (UX) at every step of product design, but this doesn’t end with the completion of your product. As long as your product is in use, the UX process doesn’t end. Thus, UX designing is the growth journey where there are thousands of possibilities that are waiting for you to explore.

In this article, we will see some of the tips that allow you to grow as a UX designer in the design world.

 CTA performance

CTA or call-to-action buttons should be designed that are easy to use and understand by users of every age. For instance, instead of a simple add button, the button with the text “add to cart” would give a more clear idea of the performance of the button.

● CTA on mobile

If we talk about CTA on mobile then the most common problem that product  designs have is that they don’t have appropriately sized buttons. As per an MIT   study of human fingertips, the average width of the index finger is 16-20mm, so the best size of the CTA button is 40-50px wide.

● Pagination

To make their design look modern and new, most of the time UX designers use  pagination or infinite scroll. However, this affects the users as they find it difficult to find the desired information. Tests have proved that pagination is   could be done for data-enriched sites otherwise it is better to keep your design  simple so that users can easily understand.

Icons usage

Most of the time UI designers use icons that are really not necessary just to doll up the web page. This may look great on the website but it creates confusion for   the potential users of the website. So, it is better to use the icons carefully. It is  best to use icons when the label can’t explain the action in detail.

Few ways to perk up your UI design

The wider tap-able area on mobile

If the design allows then make sure to generate wider buttons or visual options, especially for mobile screens. This is far better than the tiny UI components.

Color based classification

To decrease the cognitive load of users using your website, it is better that you use color-based classification to classify or point out important information. However, avoid the overuse of colors at the same time.

Few ways to perk up your UI design

Conclusion

These are some basic tips that we shared with you. Apart from these, there are many usability and design principles that you can search for to excel in UX designing. This will help you save your brain power for more complex problems. However, there is no shortcut in this continuously evolving field. So, it is better to be ready all the time to gain inspiration and ideas from wherever you can.

UX-design-industry

Introduction

If you want to be in the UX design industry, you need to be aware of the fact that this field requires lifelong learning. It is not some 4-year study after which you can get the specialization for a lifetime. You have to invest yourself fully in this continuously evolving field to become an excellent UX designer.

Here I am going to share some of the latest trends that you need to know as a UX designer. To excel in the user experience UX designers are putting their attention into generating designs that are based more on the concept of story-telling, personalization, and emotional interaction. The top 4 trends that UX designers are following all over the world are as follows.

1. Story-telling

Storytelling is an excellent way to build trust and a strong connection between clients and businesses. Story-telling has a long history they invoke the interest of the listeners and are engaging. For this same attribute of story-telling UX designers are using it to build up the digital community where customers and business providers share their stories which help them in building trust for each other.

2. Emotionally interactive design

The purpose of creating this design is to allude to the emotional response of users. UX designers are focusing on creating an experience under which users can connect deeply while using a particular website or app. This will help in creating a more positive and memorable interaction among users. For instance, Duolingo and some other websites are using animations that congratulate you upon completion of your task and give you rewards upon achieving a certain target. Hence, the excitement or joy that users feel upon getting a reward or congratulation is the emotion that connects the user with your product.

3. Voice user interface

Voice control is nothing new in this field; however, the way it is taking over the designing world is something new. The Voice user interface was the screen’s first interface before, which created the problems like failed integration with the app. So, UX designers are working now on creating a voice-first interface rather than screen-first, or a hybrid of two to resolve glitch appearance or delayed processing problems. This helps in creating a smooth experience for the users of a specific app or website. Almost all UX agencies worldwide are trying to come up with strategies to make this technology better to bring innovation to UX designing.

4. VR/AR and 3D visuals

Last but not least on our list of top UX trends that UX designers are following currently is the use of virtual and augmented reality with 3D visuals. UX designers and digital agencies all over the world are thinking out of the box to create more engaging websites and apps. China, South Korea, the United States, and Japan are already gaining attention around the world for creating websites, apps, and other digital Media infusing this technology. Thus, they are setting this as a strong UX trend to follow for the rest of the world.

Conclusion

Whether you are here reading this article as a UX designer or someone who just wants to gain insight into the UX world, you may already be aware of the fact that UX designing is a forever evolving field and so do its trends. UX designers all over the world are working on creating digital products that are easy to use by users of every age. So, they are in continuous search of meaningful ways that help them to generate user-friendly products.

Latest trends in UI designs

Posted on 05 August 2022

Introduction

After extensive research on the latest trends in UI designs, I think it is safe to say that simple is always better than complex. Maybe you think that with each passing day world is progressing and so does the digital market, so how come simply is better than complex. Well, the truth is complicated things may look cool but they can’t pick up your users’ interest. Technology is not for adults or qualified people only. It has to be simple to the extent that everyone including a child or a senior can use it without any problems. This is the thing that UI designers are focusing on these days. Some of the trends that I came across while searching for the latest trends are as follows.

Dark theme

The dark theme came into the spotlight with the official launch of Android 10 iOS 13. Now, this trend is maintaining its position at the very top of the latest trends followed by UI designers. Studies have proven that blue screens are causing the reduction of melatonin production that can impact our sleep cycle. So, dark mode or sometimes called night mode lessens the impact of app usage on our sleep cycle. Currently, UI designers are focusing on generating an interface that supports both light and dark modes to create an aesthetically pleasing yet user-friendly interface.

Neumorphism

New skeuomorphism also known as neumorphism is a new graphic design technique that started with just a screenshot that some designer posted, but now it found its way to Apple’s design aesthetics, and as we all know that if Apple is adopting this technique then everyone will follow. Back in Steve Jobs’s days of Apple skeuomorphism- the creation of real-world objects into the digital world was common. However, this era came to an abrupt end and was replaced by flat design.

Where Skeuomorphism was something extreme, flat design was too plain, so a new design having genes of both its parent techniques came into existence- Neumorphism. This is the upcoming big thing in the design world. It is a fresh idea that is based on realism where elements are part of the background itself and thrust out from it.

Custom cursor

Custom cursors offer great user interaction. When the movement of the cursor is a kind of input that create lively and fun results it enhances the user interaction. This is something that product designers and engineers are working on. So, this is something that we can expect to make its position in designing the world in near future.

Conclusion

These three trends are just the tip of the iceberg. Some numerous trends and factors are making their way toward modern UI design. Metaverse, 3D utilization in e-commerce, bolder fonts, and dynamic color pallets, storytelling by typography, voice user interface, and lotte animations are few among numerous others that are changing the UI designing world.

However, creating an open interface and helping users to have a convenient experience is something that you as a designer should focus on. I always say that whether you are a UI designer or a UX one, you can’t be a good designer if you are not well versed with the modern trends and users’ demands of the time.

UI and UX are different yet same

Introduction

Before you get into UI/UX designing there is one basic thing that you need to know. The most basic thing you need to be aware of is the relation between UI and UX. Most of the times these terms are considered the same. However, these terms are quite different from each other. If we talk about UI, it is the abbreviation of the user interface. Basically, it is the screen that users face when they open a website, app, or any other digital application. On the other hand, UX is the term that is used to describe user experience. It determines the relevant experience of the users on the specific application. Designers working on the features of UI and UX work in different domains. UI designers design the screens and all the individual elements that users use. While UX developers design the organizational framework of a website. They ensure a smooth user experience on a website, app, or any other digital media.

Comparison between UI & UX

I would like to describe the relationship between UI and UX by borrowing Dain Miller’s words. He described the relationship between UI and UX in a perfect analogy.

“UI is the saddle, the stirrups, and the reins. UX is the feeling you get being able to ride the horse.”

___Dian Miller, Web Developer

You have already learned about the basic definitions of UI and UX, so now is the time to learn their significance for each other. Both UI and UX go hand in hand. One is incomplete without another, but you don’t have to be a UI designer to be an expert in UX and vice versa. They both have different roles and their protocols are different too.

The main difference you must know is that UX is all about how users feel and ease while using your product, while UI involves the aesthetics and development of your product. They share some common features as well which are as follows;

  • Customer satisfaction is the prime goal of both UI and UX. Designers of both domains think, create content, and put their ideas into action to generate a customer-friendly product.
  • The end product must be engaging and interactive for the customers.
  • Last but most important is both UI and UX designers give attention to little details and generate a human-first design ensuring that the end product meets the demands of customers.

VR/AR and 3D visuals

Conclusion

Hopefully, you have a better understanding of the similarities and differences between UI and UX after reading this blog. It is true they go side by side and share some common goals, but they are different in their manner. UX design is more about the analysis of users’ behavior towards the product. As a UI designer, you give an attractive face to your product. So, long story short, if you are new to this field you should assess your interests first. However, I suggest you try both fields especially if you are a beginner, this will help you in polishing your designing skills as an all-rounder designer.

Usability Testing In UI Design What You Need To Know

Usability Testing In UI Design

Introduction

Usability testing is the UX research methodology to determine how easy the design is to use by potential users. It includes the observation of users about how easily they complete their tasks. This testing is often done at every stage of development. From initial stages to product release usability testing is done to make sure that the design is easy to use and understand. The purpose of this testing is simply to provide the users with relevant information which they need. This testing allows you to find the hidden flaws of your website design. Moreover, when you assess the users’ takes while they are using your designed website, you get to know how well your design works.

Significance of usability testing

You have learned the definition of usability testing already, now is the time to learn its importance for your developed design. This testing allows you to find the flexibility of an application, website, or any other design to meet its objectives. Aesthetics are very important for the design, but before that its flexibility and efficiency of use are more important.

Most web designs fail because of the following reasons.

  1. Ambiguous layout of buttons.
  2. Improper representation of icons and jargon.
  3. Non-consistent display of error messages
  4. Insufficient session time
  5. Difficulty in finding the navigation page

Thus, the best way to prevent such problems is simple which is usability testing. It allows the developer to find errors in the early stages of each development phase.

The usability testing goal is to satisfy the user. This testing allows you to determine whether or not the website, software application, or any other digital platform you created is useful, usable, desirable, flexible, findable, and accessible. This testing helps you in assessing the effectiveness of the system.

Advantages of usability testing

First and foremost, usability testing allows you to discover usability issues before the product is marketed. This way you can work on these issues and can improve end-user satisfaction. Usability testing allows you to gather true feedback from your target audience which can help you locate the specific problems instead of relying on the opinions of random people. This way you can make your system highly efficient and effective. Moreover, it helps you identify the accurate position of each element on your website and allows you to alter their position in the right manner.

Advantages of usability testing

Conclusion

In general, it can be said that usability testing always leads to excellent products. When you determine whether the testers can complete their tasks on their own you can assess the flexibility of your product. Usability testing allows you to identify the severity of the problems, which helps you in generating possible solutions. This way you can work on the functionality and user experience of your product simultaneously.
